Our Mission
From the roots up, we have grown through the mission of keeping our landscape free of unnatural disturbances, and restoring historical resilience to our ecosystems. We believe in preserving natural resources for our sake, and that of future generations. This means restoring fragmented habitats, removing harmful disturbances like invasive species, and releasing the soils to power native plants.
Unfortunately, land-use changes have left our scenery altered, and compromised the resilience of our natural ecosystems. Our earth’s great resources are struggling to maintain balanced, healthy systems. We are losing natural spaces, outdoor escapes, ecosystem services, and landscapes inherently connected to our histories, cultures, and livelihoods.
With this in mind, NRP aims to tackle the complexity of restoring and conserving these landscapes and natural resources. We believe that everyone has a responsibility to engage in this challenge, and with the demand for habitat restoration in Minnesota growing, we’re proud to assist our local and rural communities with their restoration goals.
Bringing experience, skill, expertise, and a passion for the outdoors, we embrace the challenge of ecological restoration in a dynamic world. Through self-conscious footsteps and a nostalgic need for manual labor in the elements, we work to Preserve our Native Resources.
Our Land Ethic
LIGHT ON THE LAND
Our LIGHT ON THE LAND philosophy guides our land ethic and approach to restoration. We understand the need to conserve natural resources and restore native habitat without further damaging the soil and existing native communities. Therefore, we aim to conserve and restore native habitat through non-intensive restoration techniques.
This means more boots on the ground work with light equipment, safe herbicide use, and minimal disruption of existing soil communities and native vegetation. When projects require the use of heavy machinery, all of our equipment has been designed to provide minimal compressive impact on the soil with industry low psi, and our operators are trained to avoid ground rutting and tearing whenever possible. This requires extra work and planning, but we believe it is worth it.
Our History
NRP was founded with the goal of bringing a non-intensive approach to ecological restoration focused on people and the land. As we have grown as a company, we continually aim to maintain the lasting standard of our Light on the Land ethic and the meticulous groundwork that comes with it. Since our beginnings, we have worked with over 200 clients including government agencies, non-profit organizations, private landowners, and corporate entities. Between our two divisions, we have restored, maintained, and enhanced over 8,400 acres across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas.
From Twin Cities' roots and beyond, we have embraced the full spectrum of projects and challenges. But we’re not stopping there. While remaining true to our core mission, we are always expanding our horizons and growing as a company. Just as the natural environment is always evolving, we too continue to grow, evolve, and get better.
